2016 Albany Schools Debating Competition

The Albany Schools Debating Competition is running for its third year in a row following its successful establishment in 2014. The Competition provides students from the Great Southern region with the opportunity to develop their debating skills. Through seminars for students, teachers and coaches at the beginning and middle of the season, we intend on creating the highest standard of competition possible.

The Competition will run over five rounds before the final series, which culminates with the Grand Final in Term 3. Students will compete in Novice (years 7 & 8), Junior (year 9 & 10) or Senior Divisions (year 11 & 12). The dates for each round are:

  • Round 1: Wednesday May 4
  • Round 2: Wednesday May 18
  • Round 3: Wednesday June 1
  • Round 4: Wednesday June 15
  • Round 5: Wednesday June 22
  • Make Up Round: Wednesday July 27
  • Semi Final: Wednesday August 3
  • Grand Final: Thursday August 11

WADL has run a training day for debaters and adjudicators in Albany during Term 1, in preparation for the beginning of the Competition, which is scheduled to begin in Term 2.

Students and teachers who would like to know more about the rules and structure of debating can see WADL's online guides and resources here.
