After a week of incredibly high quality debates against all seven other states and territories, the WA State Debating Team's adventure at the 2015 National Schools Debating Championships has come to an end.

With wins against New South Wales, Tasmania, the Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory; and with narrow losses against Victoria, Queensland and South Australia - the WA State Debating Team has performed outstandingly this year. The team broke fourth at the competition, and debated against Queensland in the semi finals. Breaking into the finals is an incredibly impressive achievement, and this is the second time in seven years that the WA team has broken.

Unfortunately the team lost to Queensland in a 4-1 split decision in the semi finals, on the motion that we should ban public denial of climate change. Queensland did go on to compete in the Grand Final against New South Wales; with WA being the only state to have beaten the eventual champions, NSW, in the preliminary rounds.

To top off the team's performance, both Archie Stapleton and Laura Gunning were named as highly commended speakers at the competition. This achievement recognises their fantastic performance at the competition, and it is very rare for one state to receive two highly commended speakers.

Overall, we are incredibly proud of the team's performance, and we look forward to more success at future National Schools Debating Championships!
