The inaugural Albany Debating Competition culminated at the Albany Town Hall for a celebration of the season and a night of fantastic debates.

The Novice Grand Final saw Great Southern Grammar Four take on St Joseph’s Four with the topic, “That school sport should not be compulsory.”  A lively and humorous debate saw St Joseph’s emerge triumphant and the audience impressed with the enthusiasm and passion of the speakers.

The Junior Grand Final, “That we should change the Australian flag,” saw Albany Senior High School Three compete against Great Southern Grammar Three. Well researched arguments had the audience thinking, with Great Southern Grammar winning the debate.

The Senior Grand Final, between St Joseph’s One and Great Southern Grammar One, saw both teams arguing “That the focus of school education should be on obtaining a career.” After an extremely thought provoking debate, St Joseph’s emerged with the win.

Congratulations to all students involved in the inaugural competition – your enthusiasm and commitment is to be commended and we can’t wait to see you back next year!
