Seminars

We offer a range of seminars designed to improve the debating skills of students. The seminars currently offered are described below, and we are happy to take requests for tailored presentations.

Seminars

Introduction to Debating Seminar: This Seminar is ideal for students with little or no experience with debating, and is targeted at students debating in the Novice level of the Competition. It will consist of an introduction to speaker roles, basic guide to case construction and basic information on rebuttal.

Advanced Case Construction Seminar: This Seminar is ideal for students who have some debating experience, but would like to further their case construction skills. This Seminar is targeted at students debating in the Junior level of the Competition, but students competing in the Novice and Senior level may also benefit from attending this Seminar. It will include a brief recap of speaker roles, as well as an in-depth guide to case construction.

Advanced Rebuttal Seminar: This Seminar is ideal for students who have some debating experience, but would like to further their rebuttal skills. This Seminar is targeted at students debating in the Junior level of the Competition, but students competing in the Novice and Senior level may also benefit from attending this Seminar. It will include a brief recap of rebuttal, as well as an in-depth guide to issue based and thematic rebuttal.

Senior Impromptu & POI Seminar: This Seminar is for students competing in the Senior division of the WADL Schools Debating Competition. It will include an explanation of Points of Information, as well as some tactics that teams could adopt, as well as a detailed guide on preparing for impromptu debates.

Cost

Seminars are charged at $100/hour for each presenter. A presenter can be expected to take a class of up to 30 students. Larger group seminars can be arranged on request, but will be charged at a higher rate.

Unless otherwise requested, seminars will run for 1 hour.
